Indian Air Force officer Shiladitya Bose, who in a social media video claimed that he was attacked and verbally abused by a man, has been booked on charges of ‘attempt to murder’ in the Bengaluru road rage case.
This comes after multiple videos, widely shared on social media, showed Bose assaulting and thrashing the biker instead.
According to the details, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered against Bose after a formal complaint was received by the police from the bike rider, who identified himself as Vikas.
The FIR against Bose was registered under Sections 108, 115(2), 304, 324 and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
BENGALURU ROAD RAGE: CHARGES AGAINST IAF OFFICER
The charges against Bose state he first attacked the biker, while the man on the two-wheeler just retaliated in self-defence. Thereafter, he thrashed the biker.
Bose later lied and alleged he was attacked by the biker for not speaking Kannada. According to the charges, such lies could give way to language/racial tensions.
The charges state that the IAF officer falsely claimed he was with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
He made false claims about the attack and uploaded the video on social media.
The IAF officer then fled to Kolkata, the charges state.
Bose also attempted to use military higher-ups and tried to mislead them on the entire incident to hush up the case.
WHAT VIKAS’s MOTHER TOLD CNN-NEWS18
Talking exclusively to CNN-News18, Vikas’s mother, Jyothi, said the IAF officer’s car had brushed against the silencer of Vikas’s bike.
As the IAF officer’s wife said something in Hindi, Vikas stopped to ask what she was saying. However, instead of asking the woman, Vikas confronted the IAF officer and asked him what his wife was saying.
“This person, then, who should be a responsible person, pushed Vikas and his bike. As my son was getting up, the man hit him, brought up the Kannada angle, shared the video and filed a case against us,” she said.
“It is clearly his (Wing Commander’s) fault. He bit my son’s hand, scratched his face, threw aside his vehicle and repeatedly kicked him. The CCTV footage is there for all to see, to check if we are right or wrong. How right is it for someone to come to our land, attack us and then place the blame on us?” she asked.
BENGALURU ROAD RAGE: WHAT EYEWITNESSES SAID
Eyewitnesses who were at the spot when a scuffle broke out between the IAF officer and the biker said Bose had completely lost control and started badly assaulting the biker.
“He was hitting him like mad, had lost control completely,” said one of the eyewitnesses.
“We tried to stop the fight, but the officer was out of control,” another one said.
“We are not taking sides, but the IAF officer too should follow the law. He landed 15-20 blows, flung Vikas’s phone with full force as he attempted to record the incident,” they said.
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
The incident came to light after 40-year-old IAF officer Bose took to social media and alleged he was assaulted and verbally abused by a group of Kannada-speaking individuals who chased him on a bike in Bengaluru early Monday morning.
At the time of the incident, the officer was on his way to the airport with his wife, who is also an IAF officer. His wife was driving the car.
As the police took note of the matter, they termed it a case of “road rage” and identified the biker as Vikas Kumar, who works as a team head at a software company’s call centre.
The police said both parties had attacked each other in a fit of rage.
However, a video of the incident, widely shared on social media, showed the IAF officer roughing up Vikas and arguing with him. He could also be seen hitting him even as his wife tried to stop him.

Later, multiple videos of the incident surfaced on social media.
Based on a complaint by the officer’s wife, Squadron Leader Madhumita Dutta, a case was registered at the Byappanahalli police station against unknown individuals and subsequently, Vikas was taken into custody.

News agency PTI quoted Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Devaraj D as saying, “This is a case of road rage. An altercation took place, and both sides attacked each other. The accused has been taken into custody.”
“At around 6 am, the officer was heading from his DRDO quarters to Kempegowda International Airport. His wife was driving, and he was seated beside her. An altercation broke out between the couple and a bike rider.”
CCTV footage and videos recorded by bystanders suggested that the conflict could have been avoided, he added.
“When they came to the police station, the SHO advised the officer to get first aid, as he was bleeding, and return to file the FIR. But since he was getting late, he left for the airport. After he went live on social media, we traced Madhumita’s details and contacted the DRDO quarters. She came to the station and lodged a complaint. We have registered an FIR under grievous hurt,” the DCP said.
During questioning, Vikas claimed he was passing by when the woman allegedly made a remark. He said he asked, “What are you talking about?” and then approached the officer, asking, “What is madam saying?” An argument followed. “We have ample video evidence and will proceed with the investigation,” the DCP added.
Later, Bose posted a video on Instagram narrating the events and showing injuries on his face and neck.
“We live in DRDO, CV Raman Nagar Phase 1. This morning, my wife was driving me to the airport when a bike came from behind and blocked our car. I’ll share dash cam footage too. One of the riders started abusing me in Kannada. On seeing the DRDO sticker, he said, ‘You DRDO people,’ followed by more abuse. He then abused my wife. I couldn’t take it,” he said.
Recounting the assault, Bose said, “When I got out of the car, he immediately hit me on the forehead with his keys. I stood there shouting, asking if this is how people treat Defence personnel. More individuals gathered and began abusing us.” He added, “That man even picked up a stone and tried to damage our car. When I tried to stop him, he hit me again. You can see the blood—this is what happened. Thankfully, my wife was there to get me out.” Bose also claimed they went to the police station but did not receive immediate help.
“But this is what Karnataka has become. I believed in this state, but after today’s incident, I’m shocked. God help us. God give me the strength not to retaliate. But if law and order fail, I will,” he said in the video.
While the exact location is yet to be officially confirmed, Bose said the incident took place on the route from CV Raman Nagar to the airport.
In a second video posted later, Bose said he was heading to Kolkata to visit his ailing father. He described the assault as “shocking” and said it had deeply affected his family.
IAF OFFICER ABSCONDING
Later, commenting on the incident, state Home Minister G Parameshwara said Wing Commander Bose was absconding and that investigations into the case were underway.
He also confirmed that an FIR in the case was already registered and that a complaint was submitted by the biker.
