Big victory for BJP in Tripura, snatching Rampur Lok Sabha seat from SP; Top point to shock you in Punjab

The BJP continued its winning streak by winning three of the four seats in the Tripura by-polls and snatched the Rampur Lok Sabha seat from the Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh. Meanwhile, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab suffered a setback as it lost the Sangrur Lok Sabha seat to Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar).

In Tripura, Chief Minister Manik Saha won the Town Bordowali seat on a BJP ticket, while the Congress won the Agartala seat by 3163 votes.

Counting of votes for three Lok Sabha and seven assembly seats spread across five states and Delhi took place on Sunday, June 26. Here are the complete results.

Tripura

In the bypolls in Tripura, the ruling BJP won three assembly seats and the Congress one. Chief Minister Manik Saha won the Town Bardowali seat by a margin of 6,104 votes. Saha, who was sworn in after the sudden resignation of Biplab Deb last month, needed to win this election to remain the chief minister. Overall, the BJP got three out of four seats.

After the victory, the BJP has 36 MLAs in the 60-member assembly and its ally IPFT has eight.

Uttar Pradesh

BJP’s Ghanshyam Lodhi from Rampur parliamentary seat won over 40,000 seats from Samajwadi Party. The by-election was necessitated due to Azam Khan’s resignation after being elected to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. Lodhi defeated Asim Raja, the SP candidate and Khan’s long-time ally.

Dinesh Lal Yadav ‘Nirhua’ of BJP won from Azamgarh seat by a margin of around 5,000 votes.

Punjab

In a major setback to the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), SAD (Amritsar) candidate Simranjit Singh Mann won the Sangrur Lok Sabha seat by over 7,000 votes over his nearest AAP rival Gurmel Singh.

Simranjit Mann in a tweet said, “I am grateful to our voters of Sangrur for electing me as their representative in the Parliament. I wish to remove the sufferings of farmers, farm-labourers, traders and all in my constituency. I’ll work hard for it.”

Simranjit Singh Mann, 77, is a former MP and president of SAD (Amritsar).

Delhi

Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Durgesh Pathak defeated BJP candidate Rajesh Bhatia by a margin of over 11,000 votes in the Rajinder Nagar assembly by-poll. The poll panel is yet to reveal the final polling figures.

AAP leaders, including party’s national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, congratulated Pathak on his victory in the bypolls. Recently, a by-election had to be held after AAP leader Raghav Chadha left the seat after being elected to the Rajya Sabha.

Jharkhand

Congress candidate Shilpi Neha Tirkey is currently leading by 11,245 votes and is in electoral position to win the Mandar Assembly seat.

Andra Pradesh

The ruling YSR Congress is leading in the bypoll in Atmakuru assembly constituency in Andhra Pradesh, with its candidate setting a clear lead of over 80,000 votes. Mekapati Vikram Reddy of YSRCP secured a lead of 50,654 votes over his BJP rival Bharat Kumar Yadav.
