Aurangabad: In view of the whole country Coal Problem, Nabinagar Power Generation Company Limited In Aurangabad (NPGC) has placed an order for five lakh tonnes of imported coal from Adani Group as a precautionary measure. NPGC It is a wholly owned company of NTPC.
NPGC Chief Executive Officer Rajkumar Pandey signed agreement with CCL for supply of additional 3 lakh tonnes of coal from Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL). The contract process will be completed by next week. Presently 10 days coal stock is available with NPGC.
Pandey said that commercial power generation is being done from two units of NPGC. The total generation capacity of both these units is 1320MW. He said that the third unit of 660 MW is ready for commercial power generation, but it has not been started in view of the coal crisis prevailing in the country. Commercial power generation can be started from the third unit only if at least 9 rakes of coal are available. Normally, a rake of railways consists of 59 wagons carrying 3,800 to 4,000 tonnes of coal.
According to Pandey, coal rakes are getting less now. If all the three units start functioning at full capacity, the power project would require 9,000 tonnes of coal per day. So there is some hesitation regarding the availability of coal. The situation is likely to improve by May 15. Pandey said NPGC is trying to generate more than 85 per cent of the power from its two units because if the generation is less than that, the project may not even meet its installation cost.
Meanwhile, Jharkhand and Sikkim have surrendered their quota of power allotted to them from the first and second units of the project.
Now Lightning Received by Jharkhand and Sikkim will be supplied to Gujarat. No decision has yet been taken regarding the share of these two states from the third unit. It is noteworthy that Bihar has to get 85 percent of the electricity generated here, while 10 percent will go to Uttar Pradesh.
The remaining 4 percent was to be given to Jharkhand and one percent to Sikkim, which he surrendered. Gujarat is now getting this 5% electricity.
