When asked, Sitamarhi SP Har Kishore Rai said that the in-charge of Mehsaul outpost Ali has been suspended for negligence in duty.
“They should have ensured that someone kept an eye on the detainees,” Rai said.
He said that Choudhary was kept inside the lockup after being arrested with liquor.
Rai said, “Ali and others got busy with an FIR and other procedural work. After about an hour, they went towards the lockdown and found Choudhary unconscious. He was taken to the hospital but doctors declared him brought dead. ”
The SP said that Chaudhary’s post-mortem was conducted by a medical board on Tuesday in the presence of a magistrate.
“The postmortem report has been received in which the cause of death has been given as a heart attack. There were no external injury marks on the body of the deceased,” he said.
According to the police, both Choudhary and his wife were involved in the business of smuggling country liquor and are accused in liquor smuggling cases. Sadar SDPO Ramakant Upadhyay said, “Both have been jailed on separate occasions in the recent past after being arrested with country liquor.”
