At least nine passengers on board the Bikaner-Guwahati Express were killed and 50 others injured when 12 coaches of the unfortunate train derailed in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district. 250 passengers have been rescued from the wreckage. The Railways said that the ship had fewer passengers than usual due to the Covid-induced restrictions. This is the first incident of death of passengers in a train accident after a gap of nearly 34 months.
