New Delhi [India]July 12 (ANI): After receiving heavy criticism over one of his scenes from his recent release ‘Kaduva’, actor Prithviraj Sukumaran has issued an apology for hurting the sentiments of people – especially children with disabilities.
The scene in question reportedly featured Kaduva, played by Prithviraj, saying that children with disabilities are born with their own circumstances because of the sins of their parents. The scene was not liked by many as they felt it was quite “insensitive”.
Apologizing for the same, Prithviraj took to Instagram and wrote, “Sorry. That was a mistake. We accept it and accept it.”
Director Shaji Kailas posted the apology on his Facebook handle in Malayalam.
“Sorry for the hurtful reference to the parents of children with disabilities in my film ‘Kaduva’. That conversation piece is a sleight of hand. The only request is to forgive the human error. The truth is, neither does the screenwriter.” While Jinu wrote such dialogue, neither did the protagonist Prithviraj while composing the scene, nor did I think of other aspects of it. The sole intention behind this was to make him and the audience understand about the brutality of the villain’s actions,” he wrote .
Kailas said, “We did not mean to imply that children with disabilities suffer for the actions of their parents. I have seen some articles by parents saying that these dialogues in Kaduva hurt them. Although my apology may not make up for the hurt, I am still apologizing.”
A consortium of parents of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities named Parivar has apologized after a complaint was filed on the scene with the State Commission for Persons with Disabilities, allegedly against the makers of Kaduva.
The film, which released on July 7, also stars Vivek Oberoi and Sanyukta Menon. (ANI)
