Bitter truth is that many Indians do not consider women as human beings: Rahul Gandhi

“There is a need to accept this shameful fact and oppose it,” said Rahul Gandhi.

The bitter truth is that many Indians do not consider women to be human, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on January 31 and added that Video of 20 year old woman brutally thrashed exposes a very disturbing trend in the society.

Last week, a young woman was allegedly abducted, gang-raped and paraded by her assailants in East Delhi’s Kasturba Nagar. Videos from that day have been widely circulated on social media.

“The video of a 20-year-old woman being brutally thrashed is a very disturbing face of our society. The bitter truth is that many Indians do not consider women as human beings,” Mr Gandhi said on Twitter.

“This shameful fact needs to be acknowledged and called out,” he said.

Eleven people, including eight women, have been arrested for sexually assaulting a woman and subsequent public humiliation.

“A boy committed suicide in November last year and his family is now blaming the victim. He alleges that because of him he took this step. He allegedly kidnapped her to take revenge on her. They wanted to teach him a lesson,” a police officer had said.
