BJP condemns ‘controversial’ conduct of civil defense volunteers

BJP state president Adesh Gupta on Thursday wrote to Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal over the alleged criminal and overall “controversial” conduct of civil defense volunteers in the capital.

According to the BJP, Mr Gupta said it was important to verify his credentials and change the color of his uniform, in view of reports of civil defense volunteers being involved in the crime and their “obscene behaviour”.

“On one hand there are complaints about these volunteers’ affiliation with the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of Delhi, while on the other hand there are a large number of complaints about their dealings with the public,” Gupta said.

Most of the enrolled volunteers, Mr Gupta alleged, had “very poor education standards” and their “character background” was also “dubious”.

“It is believed that in order to financially strengthen the AAP cadre, they are being enrolled as salaried volunteers in civil defense and there is lack of transparency in the enrollment process,” Mr Gupta alleged. Put it.

During the past one year, he said, there were “hundreds of complaints” of extortion by civil defense volunteers misusing COVID-19 rules as well as their alleged involvement in heinous crimes.

The Delhi BJP President urged the LG to order a departmental review of the nomination process of civil defense volunteers and police re-verification of all enrolled volunteers besides revising the color of their uniforms.
