In Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, Maoists killed a 40-year-old Bharatiya Janata Party functionary when he was attending a wedding ceremony. The police gave this information on Monday.
The incident took place on Sunday in Paikram village where the victim Neelkanth Kakem, who was BJP’s Awapalli mandal president, had gone with his family to attend a relative’s wedding, Inspector General of Police (Bastar range) Sundarraj P. Said.
When Kakem was busy in the program at the venue, some unidentified Maoists suddenly attacked him with sharp weapons. He died on the spot,” said the officer.
He said that as soon as the information was received, a police team reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem.
The official said that the exact reason behind the murder is yet to be ascertained.
He said security personnel have started combing the area to trace the attackers.
