A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA in Assam requested the Prime Minister on Tuesday Narendra Modi A day after the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) revised its textbooks for several classes to demolish monuments such as the Taj Mahal and Qutub Minar, chapters on the Mughal Empire were dropped, including those for Class 12 history. Textbook is also included.
“I urge the Prime Minister to immediately demolish the Taj Mahal and Qutub Minar. The most beautiful temples in the world should be built in place of these two monuments. MLA Roopjyoti Kurmi said, the architecture of both those temples should be such that no other monument should be close to them.
MLA said ready to pay salary
The MLA further said that he is ready to donate at least one and a half year’s salary for the construction of temples.
The latest change will be applicable to all schools in the country that follow the NCERT syllabus.
NCERT said that the changes will be applicable from the current academic session 2023-2024.
Notably, in the latest changes to the Class 12 syllabus, chapters related to the Mughal Empire were dropped from the history textbooks by the NCERT, while some poems and paragraphs were also dropped from the Hindi book.
The textbook chapters on “Topics of Indian History-Part II” on the Mughal court, emperors and their history have been dropped from the updated syllabus.
Who is Kurmi?
It is noteworthy that Roopjyoti Kurmi, a four-time MLA and once a staunch critic of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, switched from Congress to BJP in June 2021.
He had earlier won from the Mariani assembly seat on a Congress ticket. After joining the BJP, Kurmi was re-elected to the Legislative Assembly from the same constituency.
