BJP suspends Telangana MLA T Raja Singh over Prophet’s remarks

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has suspended its party MLA T Raja Singh for his alleged derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad. The party has given him 10 days to show reasons why he should not be expelled.

“You have expressed contrary views of the Party’s position on various matters, which is a clear violation of Rule XXV. 10(a) of the Constitution of the Bharatiya Janata Party. I am directed to inform you that pending further investigation, You have been suspended from the party and from your responsibilities/assignments with immediate effect, said Om Pathak, Member Secretary, Central Disciplinary Committee.

“Please give reasons as to why you should not be expelled from the party within 10 days from the date of this notice. Your detailed reply should reach the undersigned by 2nd September 2022,” the party said.

T Raja Singh was arrested by the police on Tuesday for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad. A case was registered against the BJP MLA after protests in Hyderabad on Monday night after releasing a video talking about the Prophet.

He was arrested under sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups), 295 (injuring or profane place of worship with intent to insult religion) and 505 (public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code.
