The Bharatiya Janata Party has started various campaigns across the country in preparation for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The party is targeting voters from every section of the society. Under this, BJP will now start ‘Ghar Ghar Chalo’ outreach program for the scheduled caste population of the country.
The party will organize a 21-day countrywide campaign to woo 18% Dalits of the country. The party’s Scheduled Caste Morcha has decided to start the Ghar Ghar Chalo from April 14, the birth anniversary of Dalit icon Babasaheb Ambedkar, till May 5, which is Buddha Jayanti. As part of this outreach programme, party leaders will be on migration to Dalit colonies and slums so that people can get benefits of central schemes.
“Our prime minister Narendra Modi And party president JP Nadda has been saying that we need to reach out to each and every citizen of this country without any bias. And complete all the formalities,” said BJP SC Morcha chief Lal Singh Arya.
Under this campaign, BJP is planning to provide benefits of central government schemes to the deprived Dalit families. Sources also told News18 that a big event has been planned at Delhi’s Talkatora Stadium to conclude the campaign, which is likely to be addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Of the 543 Lok Sabha seats for which elections are being held, 84 are reserved for the Scheduled Castes. In the 2019 general elections, BJP had won 46 out of these 84 seats and this time its target is 60-70.
The data also shows that a large proportion of the SC population is in states where the BJP is currently not in a strong position. The party believes that its position can be strengthened by reaching out to the deprived sections in these states through various programmes. For example, the percentage of SC voters is 34% in Punjab, 25% in Himachal Pradesh and 24% in West Bengal. These are all states where BJP is not in power. Apart from this, the states where assembly elections are due this year have a sizeable population of Dalits: Rajasthan 18%, Chhattisgarh 13%, Telangana 17% and Karnataka 15%.
