Board exams cancelled, students asked Shashi Tharoor, he replied ‘I have sympathy but..’

Claiming that they were not taught properly, a section of students turned to Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor for help. The students claimed that conducting board exams offline is unfair and demanded alternatives including online exams, internal assessments, or cancellation of board exams.

In a tweet, the students said, “We are not taught to be board ready. It’s really unfair to batch online. They are asking us to prepare for the offline board exam directly without any preparation.”

Demanding cancellation of board exams for state boards as well as NIOS, the student further wrote, “Government is not paying attention, we are struggling… we need a fair decision.” He added, “Teachers have pure problems. We have lost touch with writing. We don’t have the necessary books or notes.”

Claiming that it was not just his problem but many students, he asked Tharoor to intervene and said, “Students are under a lot of stress.” Several students concurred with him and expressed their concerns to Tharoor.

Another student wrote, “Our education minister of Maharashtra says that online exam is not possible because a lot of students in Maharashtra don’t have proper phone with good internet connectivity, so how will she explain 2 years of online lecture? “

Responding to the students, Tharoor said, “I sympathize with the problem but what is the solution? Wouldn’t one year of the students be wasted if the exam is not done?”

However, this did not stop the students, who continue to take their stand in the form of a digital protest, to raise their demands.

Earlier, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court seeking cancellation of the board exams, however, the SC had dismissed the petition claiming that such arguments give false hope to the students. This argument is unfair and premature. The officials are yet to decide the rules and dates. If the decision is not in accordance with the rules then it is open to challenge.
