Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said the body of Kharkiv Medical University final year medical student Naveen Shekharappa Gyangoudaram, who was killed in a gunfight in Ukraine, will arrive at the Bengaluru airport on Sunday, March 20.
Bommai said in a tweet, “Naveen’s body will reach Bengaluru at 3 am on Sunday.”
Naveen, a fourth year medical student in Kharkiv city, died when he had left his bunker to get some food, water and money. The shop from which Naveen had gone was just 50 meters away from the bunker. Naveen’s friend Shrikant had told India Today that Naveen had gone out when the curfew was in force.
Political leaders beyond political boundaries condemned the student’s death on the sixth day of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The Ministry of External Affairs has evacuated more than 22,500 Indians, mostly medical students, from war-torn Ukraine as part of Operation Ganga. The rescue operation was launched on 26 February, two days after Russia launched its military offensive in Ukraine.
