The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday began its community-based conventions in Kalaburgi with OBC Virat Samavesh accusing Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Siddaramaiah of doing only word of mouth service for the welfare of backward communities.
Leading the attack on Siddaramaiah, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai alleged that he did nothing for the development of OBCs, though he talked about social justice.
“You [Siddaramaiah] Can’t mislead everyone all the time. people can understand. You could not make a Kuruba from your own community a minister in your cabinet. Besides, it was BJP leader and former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa who developed Kaginele, a holy place for Kurubas,” Mr Bommai said while addressing a well-attended conference.
Top leaders of the party including Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, state unit president Nalin Kumar Kateel, former chief minister BS Yediyurappa, former minister KS Eshwarappa, union ministers Prahlad Joshi and Bhagwant Khuba attended the conference.
Mr Bommai, whose government has recently increased reservation for SC/ST, questioned Mr Siddaramaiah as to why he did not do so when he was in power.
“Mr. Siddaramaiah often says that he had a major role in increasing the reservation to SCs and STs. One must know that the Justice Nagmohan Das panel, which recommended increase in reservation to SCs and STs, was formed by the coalition government It was not the Congress government. Why did Mr. Siddaramaiah do the same while in power? The BJP took this revolutionary decision for the benefit of SCs and STs,” Mr. Bommai said.
Listing out his government’s initiatives for the development of backward communities in the state, Mr Bommai said that he has allocated Rs 354 crore for the welfare of the members of the Kuruba community.
“Why did Mr Siddaramaiah, who belonged to the Kuruba community, not take such measures for the development of his community? What moral right do they have to talk about the development of backward communities? Giving speeches on social justice will not feed the poor,” Mr Bommai said.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Chouhan appealed to the people of Karnataka to support the BJP again during the next assembly elections.
