Who entered Mr. Murthy’s house to steal old books? Mr. Stephen tries to figure it out.

heyYour neighbor, Mr. Stephen, was a bibliography lover. A month ago, he discovered a rare book on his friend’s bookshelf. As a result, a wealthy foreign industrialist, who was also a collector of rare books, bought it for an exorbitant amount. Soon my whole neighborhood lined up for Mr. Stephen’s house with all the old books he had found in his attic or bookshelf. He had to make everyone understand that not all old books can be called rare books. One day, I went to Mr. Stephen’s house with my neighbours, Mr. Murthy and his wife. My. Murthy had 20 books which were given to him by his grandfather. As Mr. Stephen checked the books, we heard a rattling sound from next door. “Dipan is doing carpentry work at his house,” explained Mr. Stephen.

old and in demand

After finishing the scrutiny of Mr. Murthy’s books, Mr. Stephen said, “A rare book is one which is in great demand but difficult to find. These are not rare books. His wife went to Bangalore for a week. When they returned, they found the lock on the main door was broken. 20 old books were missing from the bookshelf! His neighbor Pramod had heard the hammer the previous night. Surprised that the thief did not steal other valuables and only took the books.

“The thief must be from our neighbourhood,” I said and both Mr. Stephen and Mr. Murthy agreed.

“Yes, Rajesh,” said Mr. Stephen. “The thief also knew that the CCTV cameras installed in the house in front of the idol were not working.”

a clue?

One house belonged to Shree Narayan. When we went there he told us, “Only Arvind knows that my CCTV is not working.” Mr. Stephen saw a shuttlecock on the lawn and picked it up. “It must have fallen from Arvind’s house,” said Mr. Narayan. So we went to Mr. Arvind’s house, where we found his son Rohit. When Mr. Stephen showed him the shuttle, he said, “It’s Jay’s. When he fell next to us, we looked for him, but could not find him.

“Did Jai ask you about Narayan and your CCTV?” asked Mr. Stephen.

“Yeah and I told her that both are not working.” We went to Jay’s house. “It was you,” said Mr. Stephen.

“I wanted an expensive mobile phone. That’s why I stole the books. I’m sorry,” said Jay.

“I will not report him to the police. I will say that someone anonymously returned the books and I found them in front of my house,” Mr. Murthy said. Mr Stephen explained how he tracked down Jay. “Police said the lock was broken with a hammer. After discovering the theft, I went to Deepan’s house to complain about the noise. He was looking for the hammer and his son told that Jai had borrowed the hammer the day before. On the same day Pramod had heard the sound of hammer in the night. So I doubted Jai. He was feeling guilty, so when I confronted him he tried not to deny his role. case solved!”
