Kashmir Files and RRR playing in cinema halls
Highlight
- The good news for RRR is that The Kashmir Files box office is showing signs of slowing down.
- The Kashmir Files has minted Rs 200 crore at the box office after its release on March 11.
- RRR registers less advance booking for Hindi version and higher ticket rate may be the reason
The Kashmir Files has been beating its opponents at the box office ever since its release on March 11. First, Prabhas’s Radhe Shyam was eclipsed and then Bachchan Pandey was sidelined as the audience loved The Kashmir Files over it. But the same may not happen with SS Rajamouli’s RRR, which releases in theaters on March 25.

As per the Box Office India report, RRR has registered an advance booking of Rs 8 crore for the Hindi version. It is the second highest after Ranveer Singh83 for a film that was released during the pandemic. 83 registered a slightly higher number of advance bookings than RRR, mostly because it was a holiday release. Since the advance bookings for the Hindi version of RRR are not very high, the film will depend on the language going forward.
One of the reasons for the low collection in advance booking could be the high ticket prices for RRR in multiplexes. There is a problem of ticket rates in Andhra Pradesh for some time now as the government is not allowing higher rates. But RRR has been allowed and rates are insane, says BOI report. Elsewhere in India, RRR tickets are being sold at higher rates.

Reports say that the buzz around RRR has not translated into advance booking, but going forward, the story could be completely different. Meanwhile, Kashmir Files has seen a dip in its collections in the past few days. This can prove to be an advantage for RRR as The Kashmir Files will not interfere in its business. This positive sign bodes well for RRR as it may capitalize on the North Indian markets. However, The Kashmir Files has already done its job and has already crossed the Rs 200 crore mark at the box office before the third weekend.
Another major box office milestone for The Kashmir Files is that it is the third film in the history of Indian cinema after Baahubali: The Conclusion and Dangal to collect Rs 100 crore or more in its second week. Film stars Anupam Kheri and Darshan Kumar in lead roles among others. It is directed by Vivek Agnihotri.
