According to the police, the couple was supposed to join director Ayan Mukerji for a puja at the temple on Tuesday ahead of the release of their film ‘Brahmastra’. On receiving information about the arrival of the celebrity couple, the temple committee along with the district administration and police had reportedly made elaborate security arrangements.
However, members of the political party opposed the entry of the actors on the basis of an alleged remark made by Ranbir on the beef issue in 2011. A video of the incident has surfaced on social media, sparking an online debate.
Talking about the incident, Ayan said at a promotional event in Delhi, that though he didn’t want to bring Alia along because of her pregnancy, the actress and her husband were keen to join her for darshan.
Sharing his grief over the incident at the place of worship, he said, “I was feeling bad that Ranbir and Alia could not come with me to visit the Mahakaleshwar temple. I had gone to the Mahakaleshwar temple before my motion poster was released. And I told myself that I will definitely come here before the release of my film.”
“Both (Ranbir and Alia) were keen to come with me. But, when we reached there and heard about it. I felt bad about what happened there. And then I told Ranbir and Alia to let me go alone. I went there to seek blessings and energy for the film.”
The director also said that he was not too keen on tagging Alia. He said, “I didn’t want to take Aaliya there in her present condition. So, I felt really bad going there alone. And, (after going to the temple) honestly I thought they could have come too.”
A police officer in Ujjain said that the star couple had to return from the temple without offering prayers due to the protests.
Meanwhile, the police took a protester into custody after he got into a physical altercation with an officer on duty.
Bajrang Dal leader Ankit Choubey had said, “We will not allow Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt to enter the temple for their statement on beef. We will hold a massive protest against the local administration and police over the attack on our worker. ”
According to the information, before returning to Indore, Ranbir and Alia stayed at the official residence of Ujjain District Magistrate Ashish Singh.
He said that the collector is a friend of the film’s director Ayan Mukerji.
