Five-time FIFA World Cup winners Brazil secured their berth in the 2026 edition of the biggest spectacle in the world on Wednesday with their triumph over Paraguay. Brazil registered a 1-0 win over Paraguay on Wednesday as Vinicius Junior netted the lone strike of the game at the Corinthians Arena in Sao Paulo.
The victory also marked new head coach Carlo Ancelotti’s first win at the helm of the storied Canarinho since taking over last month. Brazil maintain their record of being the only side to have qualified for every edition of the World Cup.

Earlier, Uruguay inched closer to qualification with a 2-0 win over Venezuela. However, Chile went down to Bolivia 0-2 to miss their third straight World Cup.
Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay scored through Rodrigo Aguirre and Giorgian de Arrascaeta to post a two-goal victory over Venezuela at Montevideo helped the two-time WC winners to stay on course to North America.
The teams that finish in the top six qualify automatically for the World Cup, with the seventh-placed team advancing to an intercontinental playoff.

Australia punched their ticket to the FIFA World Cup 2026 slated to be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico with a 2-1 triumph over Saudi Arabia in Jeddah.
