The Supreme Court will pronounce its order tomorrow (Wednesday) on constitution of a committee headed by a retired apex court judge to probe into security lapses during PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Punjab on January 5.
A bench headed by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana will pass the order.
The top court on Monday said it will constitute a panel headed by its former judge to probe the security breaches during PM Modi’s recent visit to Punjab.
The Supreme Court stayed the parallel investigation of committees of the Central and State Governments.
On 5 January, the Prime Minister’s convoy was stuck on a flyover due to a blockade by protesters in Ferozepur, after which he returned from Punjab without attending any event, including a rally.
Hearing a petition by an organisation, the SC said: “We are thinking on these lines… A retired Supreme Court judge will head the committee and the members will be DGP (Director General of Police), Chandigarh, Inspector General. NIA (National investigating agency), the Registrar General of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and one more person from Punjab… and that could be the Additional DGP (Security).”
