Indian tennis star Sania Mirza was to retire from professional tennis after the last Grand Slam of the year – the US Open 2022. But India’s doubles player’s plans have changed due to an unexpected injury.
In a statement on Instagram, Sania Mirza announced that she is changing her retirement plans and pulling out of the US Open 2022 which begins on Monday (August 29). “Hello guys, a quick update. I have some not-so-great news right now. I hurt my forearm/elbow while playing in Canada 2 weeks ago and apparently didn’t realize how bad it was until That I didn’t have a scan yesterday and unfortunately I tore my tendon a bit. I’ll be out for weeks and withdrew from the US Open. It’s not ideal and it’s a terrible time and it will change some of my retirement plans But I will keep you all posted,” Sania said in a statement.
In women’s doubles, former world No. 1 Sania Mirza won the Australian Open, Wimbledon and US Open once each in the women’s doubles event. He also won the Australian Open, the French Open and the US Open once each in the mixed doubles event.
She was also a semifinalist at the 2016 Olympic Games, losing in mixed doubles. Sania and her doubles partner Lucie Heradeka lost to seventh seeded pair of Jelena Ostapenko.
