Britannia aims to have 50% of women in the factory workforce by 2024

Fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) major Britannia Industries Ltd (BIL) has said it aims to achieve a diversity ratio of 50 per cent by 2024 by increasing the participation of women in its factory workforce.
BIL’s Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) Amit Doshi said 38 per cent of the company’s factory workers are women.
“We aim to achieve a diversity ratio of 50 percent by 2024, which is 38 percent of the current national average in our factories,” he said.
He said that at Britannia’s Guwahati factory, the proportion of women in the workforce is 60 per cent, and this will be increased to 65 per cent.
“We are proud to have a female workforce in areas usually dominated by men in areas such as engineering, taping and grinding, packing, housekeeping, pantry, lab testing, canteens and security,” he said.
The company has already launched a start-up challenge to empower women among women entrepreneurs, Mr. Doshi said.
He said that so far the company has provided seed capital of Rs 10 lakh each to 30 women entrepreneurs for start-ups in areas like e-commerce, digital services, ophthalmology care through mobile vans and child education.
She added that the company has also tied up with Google to provide skill training to women across the country.
