Scotland Yard officials launched a murder investigation after a 16-year-old British Sikh teenager was fatally stabbed to death on a west London street on Thursday.

Locally the name of the victim is being told as Ashmeet Singh.

The Metropolitan Police said they were called to reports of a stabbing at Raleigh Road in Southall on Wednesday night and attended with paramedics from the London Ambulance Service (LAS).

“Despite the efforts of emergency services, he died on the spot after a while. His family members have been informed; Formal identification is awaited,” said Met Police.

“The murder detectives from the expert crime have been informed. No arrests have been made. The inquiry is on,” he said, appealing to anyone with information related to the murder to come forward.

‘Attack on fake Gucci bags’

Social media footage showed police officers fighting in vain to save the victim’s life in the front garden. According to the ‘Evening Standard’, Singh’s friends fear that the British Sikh boy was attacked for the fake Gucci bag he always carried with him.

A local shopkeeper was quoted as saying by the newspaper, “The police came to check my CCTV and said I was stabbed, I can’t believe it.”

“I knew him, he was a nice guy. His friends are all saying he got stabbed on this Gucci bag, it wasn’t even real. It’s awful. I wish I’d heard something or he ran up to me.” I would have dropped the shutter to keep him safe, I would have staff to handle it,” he said.

According to locals, Singh took a part-time job to look after his disabled mother, who lives above a shop where her son was killed. His stabbing to death is the 28th teenage murder on the streets of London this year.
