Bokaro: External candidates who came to appear in the final interview Bokaro Steel Limited (BSLFor the post of attendant-cum-technician trainees, the local displaced youths were not allowed to enter the campus, who were protesting here on Thursday.
When BSL security guards tried to stop them, the protesters thrashed them fiercely. Cell Refractories Unit Headquarters, where the interview was to be held. The agitators under the banner of the Displaced Apprentices Association (VAS) staged a sit-in against the BSL management, demanding jobs and compensation in return for the land given to the company by their ancestors.
BSL’s head of communications, Manikant Dhan said, “Seeing the movement of the displaced, the management later canceled the interview.” Most of the candidates came from Rajasthan and other states after getting selected in the written exam.
Till the filing of the news, hundreds of displaced people were sitting in front of the main gate of SRU as well as in front of BSL’s Ispat Bhawan and HRD Centre. The BSL management has sought help from the district administration to normalize the situation.
Amjad Hussain of VAS said, “We have completed the plant training (apprentice). From last few years we are seeking job from BSL management who gave us job assurance and training. But even after making repeated requests, we are not being given jobs. It forced us to perform. BSL management should first give employment to the displaced as we have given everything for setting up steel plant.
DSP City Kuldeep Kumar tried to pacify the protesters, but things did not work out. The displaced said that their agitation would continue till the BSL management gave them written assurance regarding employment.
In view of the protest, the BSL management overnight shifted the examination center to SRU, located about 3 km from the HRD centre. But the displaced reached SRU in the morning.
More than 100 people were selected in the written test and called for interview from 21 October to 23 October for 49 vacancies.
