The Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura, who also holds the Finance portfolio, welcomed the Union Budget for the fiscal year 2022-23 and said that it is a forward-looking budget based on the principles of macroeconomics where equal allocations are made for the entire country.
Jishnu Dev Varma lauded the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for pushing forward infrastructure worth Rs 1500 crore, especially for the North East region.
“This is a comprehensive budget for the country and it will be very beneficial for the North East. The need of the hour is Rs 1,500 crore for infrastructure development of the Northeast. He talked about ‘Gati Shakti’ – which translates to I think This is the government’s initiative for logistics. Logistics for both goods and human beings. In addition, 25,000 km of highways are being constructed which will also help in expansion of the highway network of the Northeast”, Mr. Verma said.
The Deputy Chief Minister also spoke about Rs 60,000 crore earmarked for ‘Nal Se Jal’ and ropeways for hill states and said, “It is a comprehensive budget with allocation for all. There is no special favor for anyone”.
Appreciating PM Modi’s role in taking the country forward, he said, “The country recorded an all-time high GST collection of Rs 1 lakh 4o thousand crore. Fiscal deficit has also slipped and the way is keeping all sectors in mind.” The allocation has been done. Special emphasis on infrastructure, GDP growth is also estimated to be between 8 to 8.5 percent, this is really commendable and the country is on the right track. I thank the Finance Minister for allocating funds for North East I give it. Infrastructure building is a challenge here in the North East. I think the country will progress under the leadership of PM Modi.”
When asked how this budget will affect the budget of Tripura, Mr. Verma said, “The main spirit of our budget will be to ensure the well-being and welfare of the people, creation of employment opportunities and sustainable development.”
He said that solar lighting, aspirational blocks, aspirational districts etc. have been talked about in the Union Budget. Tripura has already declared Dhalai district as aspirational district and four blocks as aspirational block.

The Budget Session of Parliament began on 31 January with President Ram Nath Kovind’s address. The first part of the Union Budget Session of Parliament will run from January 31 to February 11 and the second part of the budget session from March 14 to April 8.
