Budget 2023 | Nirmala Sitharaman announces fund to encourage agri-startups

Presenting the Union Budget 2023-24, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the setting up of an Agriculture Accelerator Fund to encourage agriculture startups by young entrepreneurs in rural areas.

Talking about the need to develop digital infrastructure to aid the agriculture sector in the country, Ms. Sitharaman said that digital public infrastructure for agriculture has been created as an ‘open source, open standard and interoperable public good’ Will go

The move towards digitization of agriculture is expected to enable inclusive farmer-centric services such as agricultural inputs, crop estimation, market information, crop planning and support for agro-based industries and startups.

The Finance Minister is presenting the Union Budget for the financial year 2023-24 before the Parliament on February 1, 2023. Last year’s budget focused on revival of the economy against the backdrop of uncertainties arising due to recurring COVID-19 infections. However, in the Economic Survey presented by Ms. Sitharaman this year, she claimed that the economy had recovered from the Covid shock.

The survey said, “In 2022-23 the Indian economy has almost ‘recovered’ what was lost, ‘renewed’ that slowed down during the pandemic and after the conflict in Europe.”
