‘CAA will be implemented as soon as Kovid ends’: Amit Shah in Bengal’s Siliguri

We will implement the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) the moment the Covid-19 wave ends, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said in West Bengal’s Siliguri city on Thursday.

The CAA, which was enacted in 2019 but is yet to be implemented, aims to provide citizenship to members of Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian communities who have been persecuted in Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan. had to face.

The CAA was notified on December 12, 2019, and came into force on January 10, 2020. It aims to provide citizenship to migrants from Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian communities from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan. Those who came to India on or before 31 December 2014.

Shah will travel to seven states over the next three weeks as part of a mega cross-country tour during which he will participate in public, political and official events.

Shah, who is currently in West Bengal on a two-day visit, will travel to Assam, Telangana, Kerala, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat.

Officials said he will visit Assam on May 9 and 10 during which he will attend several programs to mark the first anniversary of the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led BJP government in the state.

The Union Home Minister will visit Telangana on May 14, where he will address a public meeting in Ranga Reddy district.

This meeting will mark the conclusion of the second phase of ‘Praja Sangram Yatra’ of state BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar.

During his visit to Kerala on May 15, Shah is expected to attend BJP meetings and hold meetings with party leaders, apparently in an effort to strengthen the party cadre for the 2024 general elections.

On May 20, Shah will make a one-day visit to Uttarakhand, where he will attend both official and party events and interact with BJP workers.

Officials said that he will travel to Arunachal Pradesh for two days (May 21-22) to attend several official events.

Shah will visit Maharashtra on May 27. He will be visiting Gujarat from 28-29 May.

In both the states, the Union Home Minister will attend several official and party functions.
