The University of Calicut is planning to organize a special meeting of its syndicate soon to discuss digitization and fast-tracking of services at Shiksha Bhawan.
The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Vice Chancellor MK Jayaraj on Saturday in the backdrop of allegations of corruption against two employees of the university. An assistant and an assistant section officer at Shiksha Bhavan were recently suspended following complaints that they had accepted money for providing various services. In Saturday’s meeting, leaders of employees unions and heads of various sections in the examination hall attended.
The allegations of corruption against the employees are the first of its kind in the history of the university, officials said. Steps will be taken to ensure that such incidents do not recur. It was suggested that steps be taken to create a front office in the examination hall and digitization of services.
Meanwhile, the pro-Left Calicut University Employees Union welcomed the action against the two employees. However, the union condemned the statements of UDF syndicate member P. Rasheed Ahmed, who recently alleged that there was a “mafia” in Shiksha Bhavan to tamper with certificates and mark lists. Union officials said that this is an insult to the employees who did their work honestly. They demanded that Mr. Ahmed produce evidence to substantiate his allegations before the inquiry committees.
Union leaders also denied Solidarity Youth Movement’s allegation that one of the suspended employees was their member.
