Camilla to wear Kohinoor crown if Charles becomes king: Report

Kohinoor is currently enshrined in a platinum crown that was made for the Queen Mother.

When Prince Charles of Britain becomes king, his wife Camilla will receive the famous Kohinoor crown of the Queen Mother. Queen Elizabeth II announced on Saturday her “sincere wish” that the Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, should finally be known as the Queen’s Consort. soon afterward, daily mail reported that Camilla would have the Queen Mother’s “precious” diamond crown on her head when Charles ascended the throne.

The Kohinoor (also known as Kohinoor) is a 105.6-carat diamond steeped in history. The diamond was found in India in the 14th century and changed hands over the centuries. In 1849, following the British occupation of Punjab, the diamond was handed over to Queen Victoria. It has since been part of the British Crown Jewels – but it still remains the subject of a historical ownership dispute In at least four countries including India.

The Kohinoor diamond is currently set in a platinum crown made for Queen Elizabeth (later known as the Queen Mother) for the 1937 coronation of King George VI. It is on display at the Tower of London.

The precious platinum and diamond crown will be placed on Camilla’s head when Prince Charles becomes king, reports the Daily Mail.

Camilla has long been blamed for her role in the breakdown of Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s marriage.

Recognizing the sensitivity, when the couple married in 2005, the royal family announced that she would be known as the Princess Consort once Charles became king, AFP Reported.

However, in a significant announcement over the weekend, Queen Elizabeth II said “it is my heartfelt wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort”. The announcement came on a historic day when the Queen marked the 70-year anniversary of her accession to the British throne.
