Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri today asked automobile manufacturers to move beyond the prototype stage and introduce green vehicles in the market, saying the time has come for biofuels and other clean energy technologies.
In his address at a symposium at the Auto Expo 2023 here, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister said that India has advanced the 20 per cent ethanol blending target from 2030 to 2024-25 and that E20 will soon be available at many pumps on a pilot basis. The minister had earlier inaugurated the ‘Ethanol Pavilion’ at the expo where passenger vehicle manufacturers – such as Maruti Suzuki and Toyota Kirloskar Motor as well as two-wheeler manufacturers TVS, Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto, Honda Motorcycle, Yamaha and Suzuki Motorcycle Are included. On ethanol blending, he said that E10 fuel is now available in most parts of the country and the government is taking steps to increase the level of blending.
“As far as E20 is concerned, we will rollout very soon… We are now taking it to E20, three months ahead of schedule. It was earlier scheduled for April of 2023. We are now taking it several months doing first.” Hardeep Singh Puri said, adding fuel as a pilot will be available in many pumps.
At the symposium, an MoU was also signed between the US Grain Council and the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers for a clean energy partnership aimed at knowledge transfer on ethanol technology.
