Cartist is a Jaipur-based entity that brings art and automobiles together and focuses on the creation of automotive-themed art pieces and restoration works. The name is an amalgamation of two words, car and artist. Cartist recently announced its latest project called the ‘Art of Restoration’, which involves the restoration and documentation of two vintage cars – a Cadillac 1954 Fleetwood and an Ambassador 1969 Mark II – for the next six months. In addition to documenting the restoration process, Cartist will also bring together a number of interesting events over a period of six months. To develop artistic skills amongst the automobile enthusiasts, students and youth Cartist will organize various sets of engagement activities.
The Cadillac 1954 was produced in the US by General Motors (GM) and was regarded as one of the top-class luxury cars of its time. Cadillac was on top of the world in the 50s; The twin bullet-like appearance of the front bumper was inspired by jet aircraft.
Ambassador car was recognized as the king of Indian roads and it has many stories as it ruled the roads of India for more than 4 decades. The Ambassador Mark II was manufactured by Hindustan Motors, manufactured between 1962 and 1975.
