Case registered against Congress MLA for alleged assault on woman in Kerala

It has been alleged in the complaint that the MLA assaulted the woman several times.

Thiruvananthapuram:

The Kerala Police on Tuesday said that they have registered a case against Congress leader and Perumbavoor MLA Eldhos Kunnapilly on the complaint of a woman that he abducted and assaulted her.

Police said a case has been registered under various provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including sections 362 (kidnapping), 323 (injury), 354 and 506 (1).

“The incident took place on September 14. Today, a case has been registered under various sections like kidnapping, assault and criminal intimidation,” police told PTI.

The woman, who works in a private institution here, had in September filed a complaint against the Congress MLA to the city police commissioner, who forwarded it to the Kovalam police.

The complaint alleged that the woman, a former friend of the MLA, was assaulted several times and later threatened.

The woman had gone to Kovalam police station to record her statement on Saturday and Sunday.

On Monday, her friend complained to the police station that she had gone missing.

“The woman had come to the police station yesterday (Monday). We inquired about her whereabouts and produced her before a magistrate,” police told PTI today.

He reportedly told the court that the MLA had threatened him and offered him lakhs to withdraw the complaint.

Police said the case would be handed over to the district crime branch and it would conduct an investigation. Soon after the complaint report surfaced, Kunnapilly denied the allegations.
