Chennai:

One person was seriously injured in a bear attack in Tamil Nadu’s forest area. Police said two people who tried to save her were also seriously injured and are undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

The attack – which was caught on camera – shows the wild animal running over the man and brutally biting him in the face, while those around hear the bear screaming to scare him.

The incident is being told of a forest area in Tenkasi district on Sunday.

According to the police, the man, who is a local vendor who sells food items, panicked on seeing the animal and rammed his two-wheeler over the bear. The bear first pounced on him and then attacked him, causing him to lie on the ground and badly bite his face. Police said two people who tried to save him were also attacked by the animal.

“The condition of two people is critical, who are being treated at the Government Medical College Hospital in Tirunelveli,” a police officer told NDTV.

Later the forest officials pacified the animal and caught it.

Officials say that although bears and bear attacks on sheep are common in the area, this is the first time humans have been targeted.
