The Central Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday arrested a professor of Jamia Millia Islamia and two others on corruption charges.

The accused have been identified as Mohammad Khalid Moin, a professor in the civil engineering department of the university. and Prakhar Pawar and Abid Khan of Vyom Architect based in Okhla, Delhi.

According to the CBI, the professor had also given a structural stability certificate to Chintel Paradiso, a housing complex located in Sector 109 Gurugram, where two women died last month after a floor slab collapsed during repair work in some apartments . Debris fell down, causing damage to subsequent floors.

In a press statement, the Chintel Group had said: “We conducted a structural audit last year when the complaints first emerged. We will start the second structural audit at the earliest. If any defect is found in the structure, we will duly compensate the affected buyers or accommodate them in alternate arrangements on completion of necessary repair work. We are cooperating fully with the authorities and ensuring all support.

The CBI has registered the case on the allegation that the professor was involved in issuance of structural stability certificates, was involved in conspiracy for bribery with representatives of various private builders, architects and middlemen. Based on the complaint, the agency laid a trap and nabbed the professor and two others while he was allegedly accepting ₹1 lakh from them.

During the raids, CBI officials seized Rs 30 lakh in cash and documents showing bank balance of over Rs 1.19 crore.
