CBI registers fresh FIR over irregularities in recruitment of teachers in Bengal schools

The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered a fresh FIR in connection with alleged irregularities in the appointment of assistant teachers for primary schools in West Bengal in 2020, officials said on March 19.

He said the FIR has been registered against unknown persons on the orders of the Calcutta High Court, which has directed the Federal Investigation Agency to probe the allegations.

The case pertains to alleged irregularities in the recruitment process for 16,500 primary teachers, initiated by the West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBBPE) on November 23, 2020, for Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) qualified and trained candidates.

WBBPE conducted the interview and aptitude test of the candidates and published the first merit list on February 15, 2021.

“It is alleged that the West Bengal Board of Primary Education adopted dubious and corrupt practices in the appointment of Assistant Teachers for Primary Schools in West Bengal and in order to do so and also to keep the applicants in the dark, the WBBPE did not ” The FIR alleged that the complete merit list of successful candidates should not be published.

This was contrary to the provisions of the West Bengal Primary Teacher Recruitment Rules, 2016 and subsequent amendments.

As per the FIR, ineligible candidates were removed from the general to exempted categories by manipulating the merit list.

“It is also alleged that as part of a criminal conspiracy, unknown officials of the West Bengal Board of Primary Education caused undue advantage to some candidates by awarding them higher than prescribed/prescribed aggregate marks on educational qualification. in TET,” said the prima facie.

The Calcutta High Court is monitoring cases related to teacher recruitment scam in West Bengal.

The court had in January removed an officer from the CBI’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the primary school teacher recruitment scam for failing to proceed properly.

Forming the SIT in June last year, Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay had said the court would oversee the probe into alleged irregularities in the recruitment of primary school teachers.
