A 30-year-old man lost control and rammed his Maruti Brezza car into three children near Lilavati School in North Delhi’s Gulabi Bagh. The children were catching some incense by the side of the footpath.
A CCTV video clip of the incident shows the car suddenly hitting the pavement, hitting the children and coming to a halt soon after. Onlookers rushed to help the children, while some caught hold of the driver and could be seen thrashing him. He alleges that the occupants of the car tried to escape, but their tire burst and the car stopped suddenly. The locals locked both of them in a room and handed them over to the police.
The relatives of the children can be seen crying on the road and the local people have demanded strict action.
After the accident that took place at 9 am today, local people caught Pratap Nagar resident Gajendra, thrashed him and took him into police custody.
Two children aged 10 and 4 were injured but are out of danger, while another child aged 6 is undergoing treatment and is under medical observation.
One of the people who could be seen running for help in the CCTV video said that someone was learning to drive and the car had made three rounds of the area. They claimed that the driver was drunk, and did not stop after being warned by locals that there was a school in the area.
The car vandalized by angry locals has been seized.
