“I have decided to return to academia after completing my three-year tenure as CEA. It is an absolute privilege to have the opportunity to serve our country! Subramaniam said while announcing his surprise decision on Twitter.
In 2018, the Center appointed Subramaniam, an associate professor in Hyderabad based Indian School of Business as CEA. He was appointed for three years, nearly six months after Arvind Subramaniam stepped down. At the age of 47, Krishnamurthy Subramaniam was the youngest to be appointed to the post.
“It is a pleasure to work with Subramaniam Kri (Subramaniam). His academic brilliance, unique outlook on major economic and policy matters and reformist zeal are notable. Best wishes to him for his coming endeavours,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted.
His decision to return to academia comes at a time when work on the crucial Economic Survey is about to begin. The document, a report card of the economy, is prepared under the charge of the CEA.
“Every day that I move to North Block, I have reminded myself of this privilege, while doing my best to do justice to the responsibility that comes with privilege. Subramaniam said in his post, being provided with the opportunity to contribute during the turn of the era has been fortunate on the cake. His term will end in December.
The outgoing CEA heaped praise on PM Narendra Modi. “I have received tremendous encouragement and support from within the government and have had the privilege of enjoying warm relations with senior functionaries. In the nearly three decades of my professional life, I have yet encountered a more inspiring leader than him. Honorable‘Blood Prime Minister, Wealth. Narendra Modiji”
