Center removes upper age limit for NEET UG eligibility

The National Medical Commission, under the Board of Graduate Medical Education, has decided to remove the upper age limit prescribed for appearing in the NEET-UG exam. The upper age limit set by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in 2017 was 25 years for unreserved candidates and 30 years for reserved candidates.

“The upper age limit for NEET-UG is 25 years as on the date of examination with a relaxation of five years for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC category,” CBSE said in a directive.

Meanwhile, in a recent NMC directive, it has been decided in the fourth meeting of the NMC that there should be no fixed upper age limit for appearing in the NEET-UG exam.

The age criterion has been frequently questioned in the Supreme Court and High Courts of the country.

An official said that with the age limit criteria removed, candidates can now appear in the medical entrance exam multiple times and even after taking admission in other courses.

NEET UG is a dream exam for the students who want to take admission in medical institutions after class 12. National Testing Agency (NTA) has the responsibility to conduct this exam across the country for all the candidates.

This step will also be helpful for those seeking admission abroad.
