While the final was initially delayed by 15 minutes, stadium announcers confirmed a delay of 15 minutes. Real Madrid and Liverpool fans took to the pitch for their practice, but looked relaxed despite the uncertainty ahead of the biggest night in European football.

Meanwhile, there were sporadic instances of fan violence outside the Stade de France before kick-off. According to the AP news agency, fans without tickets tried to break through security and try to get inside the venue.

A couple of fans, one dressed in Liverpool outfit – were wrestled to the ground by the stewards and thrown out of the gates.

Another fan escaped from the steward and was seen running through the crowd and into the lower level of the stadium. There were still long lines of Liverpool fans outside the stadium and kickoff was only 40 minutes away.

However, French police insist that the screening at the Stade de France is undisputed.

“The supporters tried to enter the stadium. He forced his way through the first filter. Screening at the Stade de France is undeniable,” the French police said in a statement.
