Mobile Operators Association COAI said on Wednesday that Power failure in some parts of Chandigarh Telecom towers and disrupted mobile network connectivity have been affected in some areas, and telcos are in talks on all measures to empower their sites and exchanges by using alternative sources.
COAI’s remarks came after power failure in several parts of Chandigarh on Tuesday, a day after the employees of the electricity department began a three-day strike to protest against privatization.
In a statement, COAI said that there have been incidents of power outages in some parts of the city due to the strike of the union of employees in the electricity department of Chandigarh.
“It has affected the telecom towers, causing disruption in mobile network connectivity in the affected areas. Absence of power by telecom operators and infrastructure providers to their sites, exchanges by using alternative sources of battery, DG, solar panels etc. We are taking all measures in EB supply in some areas,” said SP Kochhar, Director General, COAI.
The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) is an apex body of telecom operators, and its members include Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea.
Meanwhile, the Digital Infrastructure Providers Association (formerly TAIPA), a leading body of telecom infrastructure players, has sought immediate intervention from the authorities to resolve the issue.
Digital Infrastructure Providers Association, DIPA in a statement said, “Due to the ongoing power crisis in Chandigarh, telecom services in all areas of the UT and adjoining states are severely affected. Telecom towers in Chandigarh are completely dependent on electric grid supply. Huh.” ,
The DIPA said that during the current crisis, there have been incidents of telecom network shutdown in these areas and warned that it could “massively affect telecom network connectivity” if the crisis is not addressed immediately.
“We have requested Banwarilal Purohit, Administrator, Chandigarh to ensure resolution of the ongoing power crisis on a war footing and to make necessary arrangements for providing continuous power supply at mobile communication tower sites so that telecom companies provide uninterrupted telecom network connectivity to the public. can provide on a large scale,” said TR Dua, Director General DIPA.
