As protests continue at Chandigarh University over alleged ‘leaked objectionable videos’, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) GS Bhullar spoke to the protesting students late on Sunday night and tried to pacify them by saying that “the underlying faith is necessary” and “the law is being followed”.

Most of the protesters wore black and raised slogans of “we want justice” in the presence of police. They also raised slogans against the police.

The protesting students allege that a student made a video of girl students taking a bath in the hostel. Later this video went viral on social media. The protesting students also claimed that the girl students living in the hostel attempted suicide after the video went viral. However, the police denied the claim of attempted suicide.
DIG Bhullar said, “The issue is communication gap. We are giving clarifications time and again. We are assuring the students that law is being followed and all legal procedures are being done.”
One person was arrested while another was taken into custody in connection with the allegedly leaked objectionable video of Chandigarh University students. The arrested accused has been identified as Sunny Mehta. The youth hails from a local village in Rohru sub-division of Shimla district, about 130 km from the northern city. The detained person has been identified as 31-year-old Rankaj Verma.
“It is a case of a video shot by a student and later circulated. An FIR was registered in the matter and the accused student was arrested. No death is reported related to the incident. As per the medical records, There is no attempt (to commit suicide). There was a report,” said senior superintendent of police, Mohali Vivek Soni on the Chandigarh University row.
Ordering an inquiry into the incident, Chief Minister Mann said that strict action would be taken against those found guilty. “Our daughters are our honour… A high-level inquiry has been ordered into the incident.” “I am in touch with the administration, which is in Germany, said Mann, urging people not to believe rumours.
