Danish Kaneria has made serious allegations against former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi of misbehaving with him during his playing days. Terming Afridi as a “liar” and a “manipulative”, Kaneria said that Afridi never wanted him in the Pakistani cricket team and used to reach out to other players and instigate them against him.
“Shoaib Akhtar was the first to publicly talk about my problem. Salute to him for saying this (how I was treated in the team for being a Hindu). However, he was later pressured by many officials. Gone. Then he stopped. Talking about it. But yes, it happened to me. Shahid Afridi always let me down. We used to play for the same department together, he used to put me on the bench and give me one-dayers Didn’t allow him to play the tournament,” Danish Kaneria told IANS.
“He didn’t want me to be in the team. He was a liar, a manipulator because he is a characterless person. However, my focus was only on cricket and I used to ignore all these tips. Shahid Afridi is the only person There was someone who would go up to other players and provoke them against me. I was performing well and he was jealous of me. I am proud that I played for Pakistan. I was grateful,” Kaneria said.
Kaneria also said that false allegations were leveled against him and added that he was never involved in any kind of spot-fixing. The right-arm bowler was banned by the ECB in 2012 and accused of spot-fixing in English County Championship Pro-League matches in 2009.
“Some false allegations were leveled against me (of spot-fixing). My name was linked with the person involved in the case. He was also a friend of other Pakistani cricketers including Afridi. But I don’t know why I was targeted. I was just I want to request PCB to lift the ban so that I can do my job.”
“There are many fixers who have been out of the ban. I don’t know why I am not able to get that treatment. I have played for my country and I should be given a chance like others. Now I am not too Anyone playing international cricket. I am not asking for any job from PCB, but please remove this ban so that I can live in peace and do my job with dignity.”
The right-hander played 61 Tests where he took 261 wickets, while he was also capped 18 times in ODIs and had 15 wickets to his name.
