Chennai: schools Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Sunday said colleges in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpet districts will remain closed on Monday and Tuesday due to heavy rains.
In a press briefing after inspecting the rain-affected areas like Purasavalakam, Padi and Kolathur in Chennai, Stalin said that personnel and machinery have been kept ready for all emergencies.
He appealed to the people to postpone their travel plans for three days as more rain is expected in the coming days.
“The government is taking all measures to compensate the people affected by the rains. Around 50,000 food packets have been distributed since morning in around 44 rehabilitation centers in the city. Around 160 such centers are ready. Pumps kept ready at 500 places. Four NDRF teams have been sent to Madurai and Cuddalore.
He said that all the electric poles are being continuously monitored and the officials have been instructed to take necessary steps. The CM requested the people to tread carefully in the flooded areas.
He said that all the officers are on alert for 24 hours and all the departments are working in coordination.
