Chhattisgarh: Engineer engaged in bridge construction, employee kidnapped by Naxalites

Chhattisgarh: An engineer and an employee engaged in river bridge construction in Bijapur district have been abducted by Naxals. Inspector General of Police Bastar P Sundarraj gave this information on Friday.

According to preliminary information, engineer Ashok Pawar and activist Anand Yadav, hailing from neighboring Madhya Pradesh, were taken hostage by the Naxals from the construction site near Bedre-Nugur village at around 1 pm, the official said.

“The bridge is being constructed by a private construction firm on the Indravati river. Efforts are on to trace their whereabouts in the area, which is considered a Maoist stronghold,” he said.

This is the second such abduction by Naxalites in recent times.

In November last year, a sub-engineer and a peon working on the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) project in Bijapur were abducted by Naxals.

The peon was released after two days, but the sub engineer was released after five days.
