New Delhi: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Inaugurated the city’s first school on Saturday that will prepare students for the armed forces.
Shaheed Bhagat Singh Armed Forces Preparatory School at Jharoda Kalan, Najafgarh currently has 175 students.
Kejriwal asked the students to imbibe the spirit of living and dying for the country.
The state-of-the-art school has a special service preparation wing to develop Officer Like Qualities (OLQs) in the students through individual and group tasks, mock interviews, psychometric tests and personality development workshops.
It has a free hostel facility with cadet mess for boys and girls and is part of Delhi Government School of Specialized Excellence and affiliated to Delhi Board of School Education.
Officials said that it is open to all residents of Delhi and students can take admission in class 9 and class 11.
“Delhi government’s Armed Forces Preparatory School is starting today, apart from special education, students will get four years of free coaching for the National Defense Academy and similar competitions,” Kejriwal said.
The chief minister said the school provides services “not found in the most posh schools”.
He said, “Eighty to ninety percent of the students here are educated from government schools. Education in our schools is completely free, here all children get equal facilities to bridge the gap between rich and poor.”
He said that the school was built within a year and he has exceeded his expectations.
He said, “A few years back, we realized how there is no Sainik School in Delhi to prepare cadets for the Army. Within just a year, we built this school and even exceeded our expectations. crossed too.”
The school also provides comprehensive preparation (academic and service preparation) for students aspiring to join NDA/Naval Academy and other uniformed services.
He said, “A lot of students used to prepare on their own and appear for these exams, which include NDA and other entrance exams. There were Sainik schools in other states, but Delhi never had a school like that. was.”
Inspiring students to dedicate their entire lives for the country, Kejriwal recalled his student days at IIT Kharagpur, from where he passed out in 1989.
“At that time I thought of doing something for the country. A lot of students went abroad and settled there. This is our own country and we have to work for it. I will live, fight and die here for the betterment of the country. , “They said.
This year more than 18 thousand applications were received for admission in the school.
The school has three phases of admission process – Aptitude Test, Physical Endurance Test, Psychometric Test and in the third phase a Medical Fitness Test.
“It was a tough competition. Over 18,000 students applied for admission. Your kids have overcome such a tough battle and the credit for their success goes to you too. I pray to God that they all get NDA be selected in or whatever examination they appear in,” he said.
The Chief Minister said that he would also invite experts like retired and serving officers of the armed forces to train the students.
He said that it was a smart move to name the school after Shaheed Bhagat Singh.
“He sacrificed his life by hanging himself at the young age of 23. In today’s time boys are looking for girlfriend or job at the age of 23. We named this school after him so that every student Whoever passes, this school has the spirit of sacrificing one’s life for the country, inspired by the man himself.
He asked the students to remember that even the poorest of the poor have contributed to the facilities provided in this school, adding that it is taxpayers’ money.
