China reaction

China’s Foreign Ministry on Tuesday loud statement Said Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan was a “serious violation of the one-China principle” and would have “serious implications for the political foundations of Sino-US relations”.

China also said that the visit “seriously violated China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

“This [the visit] Seriously undermines peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, and sends a seriously wrong signal to separatist forces seeking “Taiwan independence”. China strongly opposes and strongly condemns it, and has vehemently opposed and strongly opposed to the United States,” the official statement read.

The statement further said, “Taiwan is an inseparable part of the territory of China, and the government of the People’s Republic of China is the only legal government representing the whole of China. This is explicitly recognized by United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758 of 1971.” Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949, 181 countries have established diplomatic relations with China on the basis of the one-China principle.”

The statement further said that since Pelosi was the current leader of the US Congress, her visit and activities to Taiwan were “a major political provocation to upgrade US official exchanges with Taiwan.”

Condemning Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, China also said that all consequences arising from the visit would be borne by the US and “Taiwan independence” separatist forces.
