China: Repeated Kovid lockdown, restrictions hinder business

Despite implementing a zero tolerance policy against Kovid-19, there has been a spurt in the cases of coronavirus in India recently. China, adversely disrupting its local businesses.

The International Forum for Rights and Security (IFFRAS) reported that Chinese officials are concerned about the prolonged impact of the lockdown and restrictions on the province’s local economies as well as the national economy.

In areas such as the southwestern border town of Ruli, four lockdowns have been imposed in the past seven months, with little or no impact on the number of cases being reported.

According to its former mayor, Dai Rongi, these prolonged lockdowns have sent Ruili to a standstill, which has had a detrimental effect on Ruili’s local economy.

According to the IFFRAS report, the former mayor requested the government to resume production and essential business so that the interest of the nation is balanced with the interest of the localities.

Residents of border provinces such as Heilongjiang, Heber, Yunnan provinces have tried their best to deal with the problem. More than 97 percent of Ruili’s population had been vaccinated by July 2021.

However, rising cases in neighboring countries such as Myanmar seem to be the major reason for these recent surges in China.

Since these cities are largely dependent on border trade, repeated lockdowns and restrictions may strain the physical health of their people, but the financial health is deteriorating day by day, IFFRAS reported.

Northeast China’s Heilongjiang province has reported more than 68 symptomatic cases and nearly 22 asymptomatic cases, and Heber province, adjacent to Beijing, reported more than 21 new cases on November 6.

A similar situation is with the city of Ruili, a remote city in Yunnan province, which shares its borders with Myanmar. Yunnan province has reported more than 1,500 cases this year, with a large proportion of these cases coming from Ruili, IFFRAS reported.

The nation has registered more than 800 cases in a span of 3 weeks in more than 20 of Mainland China’s 31 provinces.

According to the IFFRAS report, the world’s first Covid outbreak in Wuhan in 2019-2020 is arguably the largest outbreak of Covid-19 in terms of infected provinces.
