Chinese motorcycle brand Benda has recently unveiled two new V4 engines at the CIMA Motor Show in Chongqing, China. The two engines have the same design but two different engine capacities, although they are both liquid-cooled, and 70-degree V4 units with DOHC cylinder heads and 16 valves. The larger version, codenamed “BD476”, has a displacement of 1,198 cc and will make 152 bhp at 9,500 rpm and 121 Nm of peak torque at 7,500 rpm. Once launched in production form, possibly in a new heavyweight cruiser motorcycle, this engine is expected to form the basis of China’s most powerful motorcycle.

The smaller V4 engine, codenamed “BD453”, has a power of just 496 cc, and the output is very low too, making a maximum power of 56 bhp at 10,000 rpm and a peak torque of 45 Nm at 8,000 rpm. Except for the change in displacement, both the engines look almost identical, and there are likely to be components that will be shared between the two. So far, only the engines have been unveiled, and it is unlikely that any new models will be unveiled before the end of 2022, along with one or both of the new V4 models.
