The Catholic Sabha, Mangaluru, along with its local branches in Dakshina Kannada, held a candlelight vigil outside all churches on roads and highways on Wednesday evening to protest the anti-conversion bill introduced by the Karnataka government and other alleged atrocities against Christians. Through this silent protest, Catholics in Dakshina Kannada urged the government to drop the anti-conversion bill as it is a clear violation of constitutional rights and also that it can be misused causing hardship to the community.
Speaker Stanley Lobo and Mangaluru Diocese PRO Roy Castellino guided the protest. Members of the Christian community participated in the protest by standing for an hour on roadsides and in public places. Each participant held a candle and a yellow-white papal flag. The protest was attended by priests, religious sisters and brothers, children and youth.
The participants held placards with the words “Live and let live”, “Let’s uphold the Constitution”, “We condemn atrocities on peace-loving Christians”, “Equality with other citizens is our constitutional right”.
