After nearly two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, restaurants are opening up and festivities and celebrations are happening again. After Diwali, the next most awaited celebrations take place during Christmas. Like any other festival, the Christmas season also has many activities that bind people together – one of them being cake-mixing. Ashok Hotel, New Delhi recently organized a celebratory cake-mixing event in which not only the chefs but also the children of Kailash Satyarthi Foundation participated.
For those unaware, cake-mixing is a preparatory ritual for the upcoming festival of Christmas. It involves soaking dried fruits, nuts, berries and spices in a mixture of alcohol so that everything is thoroughly mixed. This mixture is used to make cakes, muffins and other flavorings. baked goods for Christmas.
It was a fun-filled evening with the little ones from the Kailash Satyarthi Foundation, a cake-mixing event at The Ashok, New Delhi. The children wore gloves and prepared a mixture of dried fruits such as nuts, raisins, apples, apricots, bright red cherries with dried ginger, orange peel, tutti frutti, black currants, spices and wine. The kids and the cooks worked together in this unique event. The mixture is now left to mature and later it will be mixed with cake batter to make a fabulous cake for Christmas.

Speaking on the occasion, Chef Arvind Rai, Executive Chef, The Ashok said, “The pandemic has become a dampener for festivities and celebrations. Times have been stressful for both young and old. Strong immunization drives and dwindling COVID numbers have led to given that people have enough confidence to open the economy cautiously.Also, festivals like Christmas bring much needed enthusiasm and festivities, Christmas Rituals like cake mixing give everyone a lot of hope and optimism for a fresh start and joyful times to come.”
A special Christmas menu will also be prepared at The Ashoka, featuring traditional Christmas delights including mains, drinks and desserts.
